Ross White
Ross White, LEARN NC’s Associate Director until 2011, began working in the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education as a desktop support technician in 1998. Soon after joining LEARN NC, he became interested in distance learning and began coordinating statewide programs for online professional development. From 2002-2007, he served as an unofficial principal, heading a program that provided online courses for 3,000 high school students from across the globe.
Ross holds a BA in English Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Teaching Fellow, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College. He has taught creative writing in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has taught high school English in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (in the classroom) and Rowan-Salisbury Schools (online).
His chief research interests at LEARN NC included integrating Web 2.0 technologies into instruction, professional development, mentoring, and school administration; teaching literacy with comic books and graphic novels; and using technology to support teacher retention. He was an occasional blogger at Instructify and an avid user of Twitter (@edumacate).
Ross runs Bull City Press, a micropress dedicated to poetry and short fiction. He co-edits Inch, an eight-page quarterly featuring the best contemporary literature in the smallest possible package.
