Ellen Douglas has taught English as a Second Language at the elementary level for six years and currently teaches in the Hickory City (North Carolina) schools. She is National Board certified in English as a New Language and mas a Master of Arts in linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to teaching in the public schools, she taught adult ESL and worked as a technical writer.

In a market simulation, students will experience the roles of producers and consumers. The crafts in this market may be easily tied in with winter multicultural holidays (Christmas, Kwaanza, Hanukkah, Hmong New Year, Las Posadas, etc.) Students can purchase gifts for their family members at the market.
