Denise Young is responsible for Morehead Planetarium and Science Center’s educational programming including summer camps, children’s classes, adult classes and “visitor experiences” — a new approach to traditional museum exhibits that will debut in 2007. After arriving at Morehead Center as Morehead Planetarium and Science Center’s first ever full-time outreach educator in 2002, Denise became the education director in July 2004.

Denise holds a master’s degree in school administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, as well as a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and American studies, also from the University. She is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and was also awarded the prestigious North Carolina Principal Fellowship. She has served North Carolina’s public schoolchildren as a classroom teacher, a gifted education specialist and a school-based curriculum facilitator. In 1998, she was awarded National Board Certification for demonstrated excellence in teaching.
