Scott Counce is a first grade teacher at Black Mountain Primary in Buncombe County. He is in his first year as a classroom teacher and has many years experience as an assistant and substitute in mainstream and special education classes. He has worked with multi-handicapped, profoundly autistic (both verbal and non-verbal), hearing-impaired (as an interpretor), and resource students, as well as mainstream students. He holds a degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi and a degree in elementary education from Mars Hill College. He did his student teaching in a fifth grade classroom at Black Mountain Elementary. He directs a stayover camp for boys in western North Carolina during his summer breaks.

An average autumn
This lesson will be a review of skills for calculating mean, mode, median, and range of a set of numbers to be created by the students. It will result in a seasonal display for the classroom or school-wide bulletin board.
