I am a third grade teacher at Southwood Elementary School in Kinston, N.C. I find that students enjoy using the newspaper as a medium to complete curriculum-related activities. It is a creative way to encourage “reading” without the students thinking about “reading” and to provide an inexpensive resource for curriculum expansion.

- "Hang" a time
- Students will create their own timelines in a simple "clothesline" format using newspapers as a resource for dates, times and words for related events. Criteria will be simple at first to assure understanding but can be made more complex with subsequent activities.
