Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) has been conducting research and providing language instruction resources since its inception in 1959. Offerings are thorough for foreign language education, especially English as a foreign language.

Navigational topics are: English Language Learners, Foreign Language, Testing/Assessment, Literacy Education, Dialects, Refugee Concerns, and International Development.

There are PreK through 12 resources in both the English Language Learner (PreK-12) and Foreign Language (PreK-12) sections. One of the online resources found here is English Language Learners With Special Needs: Effective Instructional Strategies, which discusses the difficulties faced by students for whom English is a second language and how to provide support in a foreign setting.

In the English Language Learner section there is a link to Teacher Education, which provides information on workshops to prepare educators to teach students for whom English is a second language. Here you can find workshops and professional development opportunities.

CAL has a special site for dedicated to foreign language education for grades Pre-K through 8 called Ñandutí.
