Additional information
Magnet schools were established by the U.S. Department of Education’s Emergency School Aid Act (ESAA) in 1972, and gained popularity after the passage of the 1985 Magnet Schools Assistance Program. Magnet schools were conceived as one response to remedy racial segregation in schools. Special magnet programs include a science or technology focus, or an arts integration focus.
