This lesson will help to enhance the self-esteem of students by focusing on each child's individual differences.

Animal Friends
This lesson helps students explore personal beliefs and feelings toward others. Students will examine stereotypes and how they influence interactions. The lesson emphasizes peer relationships, awareness of feelings, understanding /accepting differences and self-knowledge.

This activity requires the student to demonstrate an understanding of classification, patterning, and seriation. The students will complete the project based on personal characteristics.

Collecting Family Stories
Students will interview relatives and compose a family story on the computer. This lesson was completed in conjunction with two other lesson plans (art and media) using the same theme but could be used alone. Student work from all three lessons was compiled in a student portfolio.

This lesson helps students learn about themselves and how good a friend they are to others. It helps children identify their own special talents and characteristics while showing the importance of good self-esteem in making new friends.
