Aligned lesson plans
- Jackie Robinson taught us more than baseball
- After determining student knowledge about Jackie Robinson, the teacher/counselor reads "Teammates" by Peter Golenbock to fifth graders. The teacher/counselor then divides students into four groups to work cooperatively on questions. Groups select leaders and recorders and each group leader presents answers to the whole class. The teacher/counselor ends the activity with a question that individual students will respond to in writing.

- Getting along with others
- This lesson introduces the key concepts of cooperation, peer relations, interpersonal skills, getting along with others, and team-building.

- A friend, starting with you!
- This lesson helps students learn about themselves and how good a friend they are to others. It helps children identify their own special talents and characteristics while showing the importance of good self-esteem in making new friends.

- Creating an inclusive environment: Understanding feelings
- The students will learn about feelings and how to get along with others in group situations. Students will discuss what makes a friend, how friends make each other feel, what friends do together and how to resolve differences between friends. They will identify the qualities of friendship.

- Building friendships
- The class will listen to the counselor/teacher read the book: "Enemy Pie" by Derek Munson and a discussion will follow. This lesson will be summarized by listening to the students share their friendship recipes created from the new ideas learned from "Enemy Pie." An example of "Friendship Pie" is attached.
