- Tacky the Penguin
- After reading the story, Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester, the students will write their own Tacky story. The students will brainstorm ideas before getting started. Next each student will write a rough draft. After the rough draft, the students will proofread and edit their work. Then the students will type their story and illustrate the pictures.

- Animal Adjectives
- Students will describe animals as they review nouns and verbs associated with these animals. They will learn to use adjectives as they describe the animals. They will use this knowledge to write their stories about animals.

- This lesson will involve students in using symmetry and doubling of numbers 1 through 7 to make ladybugs.

- Magic E: Decoding/Encoding with CVC & CVCE
- Students will participate in two activities involving the consonant-vowel-consonant-silent e (CVCE) pattern: a decoding activity involving attaching a clothes pin with the letter e printed on it to consonant-vowel-consonant words (CVC) and sounding the new CVCE words; and an encoding activity involving dictation of CVC and CVCE words from the first activity which students are to write using auditory and tactile strategies. These activities require that students have prior knowledge of consonant and long and short vowel sounds as well as blending of these sounds in CVC pattern words.

- Each student will choose a different community helper. Once they have chosen their helper the student will then draw their community helper using Kid Pix. With the help of an adult they will be required to type one sentence about their helper. These pictures will be used to form a classroom book entitled Our Community Helpers.

- Gingerbread Phonics
- Early readers use familiar words from a traditional story to learn letter-sound correspondence. The teacher conducts a shared reading of The Gingerbread Man with the whole class.
