Goal 2: Geometry and Measurement - The learner will use geometric and algebraic properties of figures to solve problems and write proofs.
Objective 2.04. Develop and apply properties of solids to solve problems.
Additional related resources
We’re in the process of aligning our content for students to the Standard Course of Study. As we do, you’ll find it here.
General resources
- Find additional resources for teaching Mathematics — Grades 9–12.
Aligned lesson plans
- Area of solids
- Finding area of rectangular solids and cylinders by cutting them into flat pieces and adding the areas.
- Format: lesson plan (grade 7–12 Mathematics)
- By Dorothy Carawan.
Resources on the web
- Symmetries II: Conclusions
- In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students reflect on what they learned in the three previous lessons. (Learn more)
- Format: lesson plan (grade 9–12 Mathematics)
- Provided by: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
- Symmetries I: Conclusions
- This lesson challenges students to reflect on the mathematical ideas learned in a multi-part lesson on Geometry. (Learn more)
- Format: lesson plan (grade 9 Mathematics)
- Provided by: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
- Relationships between reflections and symmetry
- In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students learn the properties of designs that have bilateral symmetry. They also make their own designs and investigate dihedral symmetry. (Learn more)
- Format: lesson plan (grade 9–12 Mathematics)
- Provided by: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
- Reflect on this
- In this lesson, from Illuminations, students investigate reflections in a plane using mirrors (or other reflective materials) and a geometry utility. They apply their findings to examination of interior angles of regular polygons. (Learn more)
- Format: lesson plan (grade 9–12 Mathematics)
- Provided by: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
- Exploring measurement, sequences, and curves with stringed instruments
- In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students measure lengths on stringed musical instruments. They discuss how the placement of frets on a fretted instrument is determined by a geometric sequence. (Learn more)
- Format: lesson plan (grade 9–12 Mathematics)

- Describing reflections
- In this lesson, one of a multi-part unit from Illuminations, students learn how reflections work and what happens when two or more reflections are applied one after the other. (Learn more)
- Format: lesson plan (grade 9–12 Mathematics)
