Goal 4

The learner will conduct investigations and use appropriate technologies to build an understanding of forces and motion in technological designs.

Objective 4.01

Determine the motion of an object by following and measuring its position over time.

Lesson plans on the web

Exploring pendulums
Students will explore websites with simulations of pendulums, where they'll be able to change the length and angle of the bob and observe its effects. They will then construct and test their own controlled-falling systems, or pendulums, to further observe and verify these theories. (Learn more)

The Science of Hurricanes
This lesson is the first of a two-part series on the science of hurricanes and the kinds of technology being used to identify and track them. Students examine different scientific aspects of hurricanes, all in an effort to begin to understand the nature of motion-particularly how changes in speed or direction of motion are caused by forces.
