- A walk through the solar system
- A practice in scientific notation, measurement, and scale distances, this lesson plan integrates mathematics into the science curriculum.
- Format: lesson plan (grade 6 Mathematics and Science)
- By RhondaS Dausman.
- Does one cup of everything weigh the same?
- The student will predict whether one cup of everything weighs the same. Next, the student will estimate the mass of several cups of materials. Then, using a primer balance the student will find the actual mass of each cup of materials in grams. The students will order the cups from lightest to heaviest by mass.
- Format: lesson plan (grade 4 Mathematics)
- By Christy Bunch.
- Partners in measurement
- Students will apply their knowledge and demonstrate their ability to use standard and non-standard customary units in a cooperative measurement activity.
- Format: lesson plan (grade 4 Mathematics)
- By Vanessa Thomas.
- Mass of maize
- Students will weigh different products made from corn to determine if a cup of each product has the same mass. Students will use measurement and estimation skills.
- Format: lesson plan (grade 4 Mathematics)
- By Julie Franklin.
- Water, water everywhere...
- This is a good beginning of the year lesson to review fractions, decimals, geometry (the number of degrees in a circle and drawing a circle with a protractor), graphing, and metric measurement. This lesson is a good way for students to meet their peers while working cooperatively in a task-oriented group. The watermelon you will be using for the activity is also a good start-of-the-year treat. Be sure to get an extra watermelon or two to share at the end of the activity.

- Does it float? Exploring density
- Density is a property of matter that requires abstract understanding from your students. This lesson plan is a hands-on lab for exploring the concepts of mass, volume, density, and their relationship. This lab achieves several 8th grade science objectives and incorporates mathematical objectives as well. The lab can easily be used as an introductory lab for the year, thus covering not only the content objectives, but also procedures for completing labs throughout the course of the year.
