Middle Grades Science Learning
This course intends to engage teachers in investigations of Science, the Nature of Science, and Practices that scientists use to make sense of phenomena in the world. Each of these things are at the heart of the Nature of Science and Inquiry Strands of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study: Science 2004 (NCSCOS).

Instructional and organizational strategy in which groups of students rotate through various work stations in the classroom, each with a different learning task or goal. Centers present students with a variety of activities and supply necessary resources and materials to meet the learning task. Centers may have a developmental or educational focus.

Clark Park Nature Center
A natural habitat for deer, turkey and other wildlife, the Clark Park Nature Center provides an environmental educational experience for students.

Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center at Purchase Knob

Roanoke/Cashie River Center
Open Tuesday-Saturday, this is a great place to take students to learn more about the wetlands and the history of the area.

Carolina Raptor Center
Find answers to their raptor questions, in-depth information about and photos of over twenty raptor species (the species includes owl, eagles, vultures, and more!), and a huge variety of raptor activities and games such as crossword puzzles, quizzes, and coloring pages. There is also information on visiting the Center.

Rendezvous Mountain Educational State Forest
North Carolina's system of Educational State Forests has been developed to "teach children and adults about the complex, interdependent ecosystems which make up a forest and which can be managed for a multitude of uses."
