Middle Grades Science Learning
This course intends to engage teachers in investigations of Science, the Nature of Science, and Practices that scientists use to make sense of phenomena in the world. Each of these things are at the heart of the Nature of Science and Inquiry Strands of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study: Science 2004 (NCSCOS).

The W. Kerr Scott Reservoir is in the beautiful Yadkin River Valley and it provides flood control, water supply, recreation, and fish and wildlife management. Outreach programs teach students about nature and the importance of stewardship to the environment.

Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve

Located in Camden County on scenic U. S. Highway 17, the original Ocean Highway, just three miles south of the VA/NC border, the Great Dismal Swamp Center sits on the banks of the Dismal Swamp Canal, part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.

The Walter B. Jones Sr. Center for The Sounds and the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
Students can take a walk on the Scuppernong River Interpretive Boardwalk and participate in an environmental education program at the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
