About LEARN NC for students: Grade 7

If you are wondering what page would be most useful to use as the homepage on your classroom computers, you may have found the answer — the LEARN NC student area!

This grade-specific student area is designed to meet the needs of the North Carolina student by providing developmentally appropriate, content rich websites relevant to the Standard Course of Study for independent student use. A limited list of the best sites will ensure your students don't waste their online research time. As students use these selected resources, reference sites and research guides they will learn the scope and content of an exemplary web-based resource and, in time, they will be better qualified to select high-quality sites themselves.

Here are some ideas for using the LEARN NC student areas:

  • Send the web address of this page home to parents so they can learn more about what their student will study during this year.
  • Require this site and other sites featuring selected content, like NC Wiseowl, for student research projects – include evaluation of websites in your assignment and assess this by including it in the rubric.
  • When you plan your lessons, use the grade-specific sites to find relevant, appropriate web-based activities for whole-class instruction and computer lab or media center use.
  • If you know what students have already covered you can better meet them where they are when you teach your next lesson. Explore the student areas in other grades and disciplines to learn more about the curriculum and to see what students should have already learned.
