How-to guides

These handouts identify instructional and curricular needs of teachers, media specialists, and administrators and offer suggestions for how to address those needs using LEARN NC. Available in PDF format.

  • Collection Guide. For anyone using the LEARN NC website. It can be used alone and as a compliment to the Animated Website Demonstrations (see below) .
  • Collaboration Guide. Intended for media specialists who need strategies for collaborating with classroom teachers.
  • New Teacher Guide. For new teachers, or teachers who are new to LEARN NC, this guide offers suggestions for using resources from the LEARN NC website to meet teaching challenges.
  • Administrator's Guide. For administrators seeking strategies for supporting teachers, this guide supports the role of the administrator as instructional leader.

Animated website demonstrations

LEARN NC has developed animated demonstrations of various techniques for locating resources on our website. Designed around particular topics in education, the demonstrations provide an introduction for teachers who are unfamiliar with LEARN NC's website or who may not have fully explored it. The demos can be viewed in a web browser with the Flash plugin installed. You can click on the link to launch each demo, or right-click to save the file to your computer and then open it through a web browser.

Implementing Classroom Instruction that Works with LEARN NC

Based on the research study by Robert Marzano and his colleagues at MCREL, this guide offers a complete professional development workshop for introducing the 9 research-based strategies that have been identified as critical to the improvement of student achievement. The package identifies resources from the LEARN NC website which support the integration of these strategies across subject areas and grade levels. Included in the package is an instructor manual with detailed talking points, background information on the original research study, handouts, evaluation form, pre/post workshop activities, and PowerPoint slides to accompany the workshop. This professional development package can be customized to be taught in one day or introduced over several days depending on the desired depth of exposure to the strategies.

Revolving PowerPoint presentation

As a stand-alone tool, this revolving PowerPoint demonstrates the breadth of resources available on the LEARN NC website. It may be used as an attention-grabber as participants are entering a workshop or meeting.

Building connections with LEARN NC: a one-hour presentation

This resource includes an outline and detailed talking points for conducting either a one-hour presentation or a hands-on workshop about LEARN NC. The Consider using the color handout Connections available at http://www.learnnc.org/support/pr to reinforce the outline of this workshop.
